This blog is for family and friends so they can watch as we settle in a new town with a newly built house and turn it into a home, establish gardens and settle in. Come and join us and follow the progress. I will try and include lots of photo's along the way.

from the weekend
Found my phone cable so here are two more pictures from the weekend with the cut starting to be filled in..
Fill
Took a drive up on Monday afternoon to discover that about 1/2-1/3 of the cut had been filled with more sand due. Nothing happened Tuesday but today ( Wednesday) after work I dashed up to the block in the hopes that there had been something going on to discover that most of the cut is now filled. It's been raining on and off all day so I've been told. The large digger is gone and there is now only a small bobcat parked on site. When I arrived there were 2 small sand piles in the garage area, obviously not enough sand to fill the cut and the rest was done. The guy was busy on his mini roller machine compacting away.
As I took my photos a truck arrived with what I would assume is the final load of sand so that the garage section can be completed. Yippee
In this photo you can see the drop down to the road on the main street which will be along the side of our house.

What hole where???
Went for a drive to the block late this afternoon to take a few pictures. We can't believe just how huge the cut for the block is. I know they've cut at least 1 m around where the slab will be in every direction but it still seems really big. Perhaps when the slab goes down it will seem a little less gi-normous.
Hubby couldn't resist checking out the view from the top of the rocks the earthworks guy dug out.
Much to youngest son's displeasure sometime since yesterday someone had dared run up the dual sand hills at the front of the build. Of course he then had to test it out.

and so it begins- the cut
And so begins the cut.
I am so glad that the developer took away many of the rocks.I've been told the developer took away several truck loads. There is now a truck load of them just from the small extra section that had to be cleared for our house plan. You can see some of the state forest land behind the plum farm in the distance.

Finally
13 days late but here at last. Hubby said I should say this is me with the machine I've borrowed for the weekend. Thought I'd make my own start on our earthworks. BUT it's not true of course. After what seems like forever we have earthmoving equipment on the block and some site pegs. Yippeee.
We seem to have more pegs further out than we expected although we did expect them to be slightly off the original pad.
We seem to have 2 different types of grass tress on our block. Not sure that you can see the differences in this photo. Both are together. One is what i think of as a normal type grass tree and next to it the ones we seem to have all over the block. They had a long narrow stem and a smaller yellow/cream flower head.
You can see the way the block slopes down towards the plum farm behind us.
These are 2 of the ones we had at our last house. We don't have any large ones here at the new block. I miss our beautiful big trees.

No big surprise
Well with no big surprise just disappointment that the builders lived up to my expectations. The earthworks people never turned up today. I'm back at a work next week and Hubby has said that no way wil he take photos while the earthworks guys are there so it means the best we'll get is a before and after shot. Hopefully next week sometime.

Still waiting
Well it took nearly 8 weeks for our plans to come back from council and even then we waited for more weeks until approval came back from the Health Department.
So much for our "2-3 weeks from sending to council. Builder contact "B" sent our file across to the construction section of the builder while they waited for Health Department approval. While we waited construction were able to start working out finer details and , as we have since discovered book earthworks and possible slab date.
A week or so later Health Department approval arrived wiht some minor changed required to leech drain position and layout and was very quickly followed by our first invoice and introductory letters from our new construction person" D" and the office contact in construction" A" along with some general details on when to expect them to contact us, telling us what they expect from us. i.e. be patient, if there is a delay they are getting to it as fast as they can... not to bug them basically, hmm we will see..
well that kept us quiet for nearly 2 weeks.
Yesterday I rang "B" to ask about something else and while I was talking to her I was able to talk to "A" about when earthworks were likley to happen. She chased up our file and rang back with the news that earthworks have been booked for this Friday and slab work for the 23rd.
I guess we now wait and see what happens.
